We just got back home today from El Salvador. There is much to tell, and all will be posted here as we sort through our photos and gather our thoughts.
So what's El Salvador like? It is both beautiful and brutal - a paradox of severe poverty that stretches across paradise. Its people seem to possess a wide-eyed innocence and post-war weariness all at once. We mostly felt safe as we moved about the country, even though violent crime is still a serious problem in El Salvador.
But the children here will steal your heart. They were everything we had hoped to find in this country, but then we also found so much more.
This is our first-ever trip to central America, and we were welcomed with open arms. We connected with countless numbers of big-hearted kids and adults. We were amazed and touched. This was a life-changing trip.
Michele and I have fallen in love with the land and the people of El Salvador. Before this year ends, we want to go back.
